Our Goal
While the main goal of Catnation is to create a home for stray cats, improve the population rate, health and quality of life for our feline friends, there is a lot more we want to achieve with this project. The project is expected to contribute to the local community, creating a hub for animal friends where they can enjoy quality time within the Park grounds, with entertainment facilities such as a cat playground, a cafeteria, and even accommodation services. Additionally, the Park wants to be a place where people get educated on issues like animal health, welfare and animal population control.
Here’s a detailed breakdown of our goals and objectives:
1. Reduction of cat hunger, disease, abuse, and abandonment
This is the main goal and one that we will address head-on.
2. Excellent Animal Care – Animal Hospital
The Cat Park will entail a state-of-the-art Veterinary Clinic. To achieve this, we believe that it is vital to invest in competent and experienced professionals who will help run the Cat Park from the beginning. To start with, a team of veterinarians and volunteers, who with their specialization, experience, consistency and care for animals, will manage to offer modern diagnostic methods and surgical techniques and a safe and playful environment for cats in need.
3. Population Monitoring and Control
The main reason we are faced with the problem today is the inability of the public sector to exercise proper measures of population control. Over the years we have proceeded in sterilizing healthy strays around various areas of the country and have successfully been able to combat population explosions over these areas. As a result, the strays are healthy within a controlled population. The Cat Park clinic will be conducting targeted sterilizations to continue the program of healthy population control.
4. Rehabilitation and Placement
We will provide medical care to all sick, injured and abused strays and try to give disadvantaged animals the ability to be placed in foster homes for permanent adoption. This will help guarantee a higher quality of life for the felines.
5. Implementation of targeted educational and public awareness actions
Another important goal of the project is to implement targeted collaborations and actions for the purpose of educating the community about the plight of stray cats in Cyprus. Primary emphasis will be given on education and awareness in schools, at an early age. At the same time, local community awareness campaigns will help raise awareness amongst the adult population, who can also assist us in our actions.
6. Minimization of negative environmental impact
Taking into account the relevant European Directives, as well as the national legislative framework, appropriate actions will be taken to minimize the environmental footprint and thus be conducted in a sustainable way.
